…. with such helpful service from your local BMW Motorrad dealer? They are such a great help when you are stuck in the middle of nowhere with a bike they call “unstoppable” …. Isn’t the GS range of motorcycles designed for these sort of conditions?

They are bloody useless … BMW London Battersea / Park Lane will never ever see me again. The bike is nice and luckily in the end it was a small problem I could fix myself, but when asking my local dealer for some advice or help with the recent problems I had on this trip … this is the reply I get:

Good Morning Mr Els

Thank you for your email, Dean is unavailable this week so I have replied in his absence.

Your machine records show the fuel pump electronics were replaced under your machines warranty.

You could encounter many problems on a trip such as yours, unfortunately none of the team at Battersea have direct experience of using a machine in these conditions.

Kind regards

Paul Wheatley

Wow … thanks, that is great service and support !! ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

    just upgrade the software! ๐Ÿ™‚

Well done so far! If you are unsure about the bike dont attempt the road between moyale and marsabit, no help available there, put your bike on a truck! Anyway with the sand in sudan you might want to check your air filter, the bike electronics will try compensate if the filter is full of sand, ontop of low octane its just too much! Good luck and I will see you in cape town!

Deon .. thanks, but I am convinced I have fixed the issue. Crazy that a dodgy side stand switch can cause so many problems. Already changed air filter in Sudan … thought the same, so I changed to rule that out ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Hugh says:

BMW introduced the side stand switch to prevent dick-heads riding off with the stand down. Every component has a failure rate and to get the failure rate of the whole system each failure rate compounds the next. BMW should have accepted that sometimes their bikes are ridden by stupid people and Darwin rules. Honda just fitted a rubber finger that flicks the stand up with a bang. If the rubber finger fails you are back to Darwin but the engine keeps running!

  5. Paul says:

Hi mate. You might wanna google Vines Motorrad South London. Great service! Ask to takl to the owner and say you were recommended by Christian Motorcyclist Association Portugal, guarantee you will have prestige attendance.

Thanks Paul … but from now on I will most probably service the bike myself since it is out of warranty ๐Ÿ™‚
